We believe that the phrase “stand on the shoulders of giants” does not account for certain individuals having higher ladders to begin with. Our lab is an inclusive place, where everyone has a seat at the table, and where all voices are heard. While conducting cutting-edge research, members of the lab will be challenged to grow and to give back to the greater community where we live. We are not perfect. We are fallible. We will improve.

What can viruses teach us about ourselves? The Baker Lab studies influenza viruses that have specialized to humans or birds to uncover how virus-host interactions successfully orchestrate the production of viral progeny — with a particular focus on how host alternative splicing shapes that outcome.
